What a Bunch of Athols!
Have you heard about the tiny Masschusetts town of Athol?
They are in quite a dither over a Comcast Cable ad that pokes fun at their town’s name. It seems the pronunciation of Athol is strikingly similar to a very, very naughty word.
Well, the folks in Athol have thrown down the gauntlet. They say they are tired of being the butt of everyone’s jokes (pardon the pun). And they are even more livid because Comcast apparently mispronounces the name of the town to make it really sound bad. So town leaders have sent a letter to Comcast asking them to pull the ad.
Of course, Athol is not the only town with an unusual name. There’s Intercourse, Pennsylvania, Hornytown, North Carolina, and my personal favorite — Ding Dong, Texas.
