Black National Anthem?
Our nation’s continuing experiment in moral relativism has reached new heights. Now — it seems — Americans have the right to choose their own national anthem. At least that’s what a Denver singer by the name of Rene Marie seems to believe.
She was invited to deliver a rousing version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Mayor John Hickenlooper’s annual State of the City address. Those assembled dutifully stood at attention, faced Old Glory and waited for Ms. Marie to belt out those hallowed first words, “O say can you see.”
Instead, they heard, “Lift ev’ry voice and sing,” the opening lyrics to a song known as the Black National Anthem.
At first, most folks seemed genuinely confused. Now, they are getting angry. Everyone, that is, except for the mayor. He told local reporters that he was more confused than offended. You can read what Ms. Marie had to say by clicking here.
Ms. Marie decided to sing a version to celebrate what it means to be a black American.
It sort of makes you miss Roseanne Barr’s version, doesn’t it?

That, for lack of a better phrase, is downright ridiculous.
This is outrageous.
I can assure you my voice teacher and I won’t approve of that “black national anthem” being sung instead of The Star-Spangled Banner. They can’t sing the Black Anthem at 6:30 AM on July 4 at the Peacthree.
