Todd and the Peabody Ducks – Part ONE

10 July 2008 No Comment Download My Toolbar!

The Peabody is one of the South’s grandest hotels. And the Peabody Ducks are certainly one of the nation’s most cherished treasures. This year, the Peabody Ducks are celebrating their 75th anniversary. So when I found myself on assignment in Memphis, I made sure to drop by the Peabody.

Imagine my surprise when I was invited to be honorary duckmaster! It’s an honor that’s bestowed on Oprah, Kevin Bacon and the beloved Southern icon Paula Deen. Needless to say, I was in high cotton.

The family was pretty darned excited about the whole affair. Uncle Jerry and Aunt Lynn from Coldwater joined me on the adventure along with Mema (who remembers dancing at the Peabody back in the 40’s.)

Coming tomorrow, I’ll be featuring my essay about the ducks and my adventure ushering my web-footed friends into the lobby.

Meanwhile, here are some photos taken from the rooftop of the Peabody in downtown Memphis.
