The Southern Baptists Are Here!
Hundreds of Southern Baptist volunteers are in Denver to do what they do best — help others.
They are working in eight hour shifts to staff feeding stations for thousands of media, delegates and volunteers to the Democratic National Convention. The Southern Baptists are working at 11 different sites across downtown to make sure everyone has a hot meal — and they’re doing it 24 hours a day.
Local Southern Baptists tell Baptist Press it’s an opportunity to minister and meet needs in the name of Christ — in a non-political way.
One police officer asked why the Baptists were volunteering. “We’re Southern Baptists and we’re doing it because we love Jesus and we love you,” a volunteer said to Baptist Press.
And if there’s one thing Baptists can do — it’s cook. The folks here have been eating high on the hog — lasagna, garlic bread, salad — not too shabby.
In the sake of full disclosure, I’m a Southern Baptist — and I must say that I’m very proud of my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
