Hanging Sarah Palin

It’s not a crime to hang a Republican Vice Presidential candidate in effigy in West Hollywood, Calif. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. says there’s nothing they can do about a man who displayed a likeness of Gov. Sarah Palin hanging from a noose on the outside of his home.

The mannequin features the governor’s signature hairdo, glasses and a red coat. Senator John McCain is also part of the display. His image is surrounded by fire.

Chad Michael Morrisett said his display is nothing more than Halloween art work. The LA County Sheriff’s Department agrees. It’s not hate speech, said spokesman Steve Whitmore. But get this — he told the LA Times that it might have been a different story if Mr. Morrisett had made a Barack Obama-like doll. He said authorities would have to “evaluate it independently.” Uh, huh.

“Now, if there was a crime against bad taste,” he told the LA Times.

The McCain campaign has come under fire in recent days under allegations their supporters have uttered hateful things at rallies. In each instance the candidate called down the hecklers and told them there was no place for such talk at their rallies.

But that part of the story didn’t get much coverage among the media elites. And now, we’ve got a supporter of Senator Obama hanging an image of Gov. Palin from a noose.

Where is the outrage in the national media? Where is the outrage from groups like the NAACP and SCLC? Where is the outrage from the National Organization for Women? Do they not have the courage to muster just an ounce of anger that a female vice presidential candidate was disparaged in such a gross and vile manner? Their silence, my friends, should be just as much an outrage.

It take the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. a nano second if the effigy was that of the Democratic Party candidate for president Halloween or not Halloween. I am an Obama supporter but I do not support hate especially from a gay couple in West Hollywood who should know better.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!! THIS should be national headline news!!!!!!! But, no, let’s stuff it under the covers and continue the charade. See no evil, hear no evil……… Obama has everyone hypnotized……

I believe in the freedom of speech but THIS is NOT acceptable! AND if the shoe were on the other foot, if it had been the likeness of Obama…….it would have been like the shot heard around the world!!!!!

If it were a likeness of Sen. Obama not only would it be seen as some sort of actual threat to his life (thus bringing in the police), it would also automatically be considered racist. Incidents like this prove there are those out there who just hate humans they disagree with, regardless of skin color. Like you said, it’s unacceptable that the groups that would be up in arms if this were Obama are completely mute.

It’s not spooky, it’s not scary, it’s not simply impolite and it’s not satire. It’s violent and should be disallowed.

Sarah Palin is a prominent public figure running for office. Halloween or not, this is no time for “pranksters” or misled West Hollywood residents to try out their First Amendment “rights” by using a violent image to express their views–in full view of the public via the sidewalk and city street.

Children, who are protected, even from others who are exercising their own free speech rights, must also pass by in busses and in vehicles and on the street. So these men have exercised terrible judgment and the law enforcement officials that do not protect citizens, including children, from being exposed to this violent image should rethink this issue.

An then there is the implication of a threat. No we are going to waste taxpayers money in having to answer a very simple question, does this present a real threat? Fortunately, with zero tolerance in most public schools these day, all you would have to do is ask a school principal if this would be tolerated, no matter whose head was in the noose. I can guarantee you, it wouldn’t happen.

Try drawing this for an art assignment with the principal’s head in the noose for Halloween, or a teacher who isn’t liked. I don’t think the student would probably be allowed back in to school–at least for a long while. Even in California. So maybe the adults should start acting like adults so the teens and children will understand that their actions matter and what they do in “public” e.g. where others can see, matters.

Cut ‘er loose boys and grow up.

A noose is a noose. Not too long ago there was a problem in the south where a white child was badly beaten by black students because of a noose in a tree. The whole town was in an uproar and it was considered a hate crime, and racist. This is against women, by a gay couple. I don’t care if Sarah Palin is running for Vice President. It took women years to fight their way out of the dark ages and this couple shows how little respect they have for us. This is an act of violence against all women.
