Booted Off the Plane

War is hell.

And sadly, we’ve lost some good people in this political battle. Three of my colleagues have been tossed from O-Force One. Reporters from the Dallas Morning News, New York Post and Washington Times were told to pack their bags and hit the road. The official line from the Obama campaign is there’s not enough room. So these fine reporters are being evicted to make room for reporters from Essence and Jet.

Coincidentally, all three newspapers endorsed Senator John McCain. I just spoke with a senior advisor for Obama’s camp and I’m told the evictions had nothing to do with the endorsement.

As word spread through the plane, I had several colleagues turn to my seat, 19D, and ask if I’d been given walking papers. As of this writing, I’m still on board. However, I’ve given up my aisle seat and moved to a middle seat. I have radio reporters on either side who have vowed to defend me until the bitter end.

On a side note, it’s a good thing I decided not to dress up as Joe the Plumber for Halloween! I had visions of me standing in the middle of an Iowa cornfield, with my luggage by my side, thumbing a ride as O-Force One jets off to Chicago.

For the sake of balance, it should be duly noted that the McCain campaign has performed a similar exorcism. They banned two columnists, Maureen Dowd and Joe Klein, from their charter.

As you might imagine, this story has stirred up a hornet’s nest. One journalist summed up the situation by quoting from Senator Obama — “It ain’t right.”

It never ceases to amaze me. If things continue this way down the road, with reporters, can you say dictatorship. I guess the whole Obama thing reminds me of the story of how to catch a wild pig.
