Senator Arlen Specter is one of the key reasons I am no longer a Republican. I remember it was in the late 90s that I switched to Independent. And it was largely due to Specter and other weak kneed, phony Republicans.

I remember hearing him say that America couldn’t afford a tax cut and I almost got whip lash.  HUH?? We can’t afford to let the American people keep more of their OWN MONEY?? He always seemed more like a Democratic to me, but that was the last straw.

It broke my back and I bolted from the GOP.

And now the Senator has done what he should have done years ago–he’s joining the party he has more in common with anyway.

Specter has announced his switch to the Democratic Party.

Good riddance, Senator Specter. You are the kind of small “r” Republican who has killed the Party. You have turned your back on the Party and you wonder why there is no love for you.

To add insult to injury, Specter’s back stab will leave the Democrats within two votes of a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. Just the kind of power the Democrats need in this time of runaway and insane government growth and spending.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Senator.

I think this is a golden opportunity for republicans. We are almost powerless for the next two years and I believe we should use that time to strengthen the republican party and take back our party and our government. The first thing we should do is go to other RINO republicans like Olympia Snow and tell them it's time to move on to another party. Democrat or Independent doesn't matter, just not republican. Then we will be free to nominate, support and elect REAL republicans and get rid of the deadwood that has been bringing down the republican party for years.
Good riddance to Specter. It's a great start, but it's only a start. Get rid of these other RINO's. Don't give them a chance to defect or make the decision themselves, tell them in no uncertain terms that if they can't adhere to and vote for true conservative principles then the party has no place for them.
