Grocery Store Crucifix Under Fire
Tom Collora is the manager of Culinaria, a grocery store in downtown St. Louis. He is also a Roman Catholic. That’s why there’s a crucifix hanging behind his desk in the customer service department. But the crucifix has drawn the ire of from Jewish customers — some of whom have complained to the local chapter of the Anti-Defamation League.
In a nutshell, some of the customers said God and groceries don’t mix and they want the crucifix bagged.
For the time being, Culinaria’s parent company, Schnucks, is standing by Mr. Collora. They gave him permission to display the religious symbol. A spokesperson for the company said they did so out of respect for him and his faith.
The ADL said it is not a fight they want to tackle.
It’s worth noting that no one has lodged such complaints against Chinese restaurants for displaying statues of Buddha.

What part of private property do people not get? Are grocery stories a public right too? I would have asked them to leave like I would have asked a thief to leave.
Thank you for pointing out the Buddha situation, as one of many possible examples. It is certainly becoming more and more common to attack Christianity these days, but accept everything else. I'm a Christian married to a Messianic Jew and we both agree that it's especially disturbing for this anti-Christian attitude to be coming from Jews of all people. We (Christians and Jews) serve the same God (G-d)! I understand it is Christ the Messiah that divides our faiths, but the Crucifix does not negate, defame, or slander Judaism. If anything it completes it.
The muslims are wanting the women to wear head scarves. If this is not a religious symbol i will eat my HAT. We as americans are supposed to just accept everything they throw at us in the name of fairness. Where is the fair?
Private business, government has no say, If they don't like it they can take their business else where.
About 80 to 85 percent of Americans believe in God. Why is it that we as Christians are catering to the 15 percent or so who do not believe in God? We as Christians must stand on the Word of God. "One Nation Under God" "In God We Trust" George Washington said: It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible and Ronald Reagan said: Without God, democracy will not and cannot long endure. What has been happening to America since the 1960's? The American family has been too busy for God, myself included. It is time to wake up America. Lets not be the ones saying: Noah! Noah! Let us in! Let us in! Jesus will come like a thief in the night, lets be sober and watchful!
